Class Action UPDATE - Rosenau v. Unifund

By Order dated August 10, 2009, a federal judge of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania granted Final Approval to a Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) class action settlement that benefits nearly one thousand Pennsylvania consumers. The class was represented by consumer advocates Cary Flitter, Ted Lorenz and Andy Milz.

The approved class action settlement in Rosenau v. Unifund provides for $100,000 to be paid to 963 Pennsylvania consumers who received a deceptive debt collection letter from Unifund purporting to be from the company's “Legal Department” despite the lack of any attorney involvement in collections.  Each class member will receive approximately $103.84 for having received the violating letter.
